  1. Hi, love your blog and your house! 🙂 I was going through Homeone Forum and saw few of your comments there. I came across an interesting one about the piering where you said “When you finish your slab make sure you get hold of the SS before handover to the next SS who will manage the rest of the build to ask about any additional piering used. If you have provisional costs you can ask for that credit back immediately. We did. A whole $8k.” We have a land and home package with Clarendon (I am going to check in our contract about the piering). What should I ask Clarendon about the additional piering? How do we know how many pierings we are entitled to? Sorry, first time building and have no idea about these things 🙂

    1. Hi there, glad we could help. Not sure how it works with a house and land packaged. That said, you should have provisional costs in your contract? If you do, they could allow for additional piers to support the slab. The standard is the legal requirement but at the quoting stage they can’t tell what the rock / soil structure is until they start preparing. I went to site on the day of the pouring as the supervisor would be there. Confirm with him then, how many additional piers he used. If none, you can ask for a rebate if quoted in your building contract. Hope this helps. Kath
